Garrison Creek Cellars - Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignion - 2001

Washington is always an adventure. I am always operating well out of my knowledge base, but more often than not, I am rewarded for an adventurous spirit. Today was an exception. I relied on the careful eye and nose of Philip, our maître d' at Spencer's (outside of SEA-TAC airport) on a second selection. The Garrison Creek was an unbelievable followup to our 2003 Kiona Cabernet Sauvignon. The only word that I could find to express my appreciation to our host was 'famous'. This bottle is truly famous in the list one wines I have sampled to date and will remain so for years and years to come.

Strong flavors with a delicate balance of fruit and leathery but supple tannins. The age on the bottle created such a smooth pallate that it was difficult to pick out identifying characteristics. The best I can offer is a nose of a stinky Rhone and the flavors of tart cherries, pomegranate seeds and bresaola ham to name a few.

Very impressive delivery.

Kiona - 2003 - Red Mountain Cabernet

Another great example of strong red mountain character.

Barnard Griffith - Columbia Valley 2007 - Malbec

Not as fruity as you might expect from a washington cab. This one is an inspiration.
